I just finished listening to your guest speaker, Carol Kent, about her son, Jason. I had the pleasure of seeing Carol speak at a Winning Womens’ Retreat in Florida I believe before the arrest and imprisonment of her son. She was speaking on her current book, Secret Passions of the Christian Woman. We all enjoyed her commentary of how she came to write that book. I bought a copy of the book. So when I saw another book written about the tragic events of her son, I immediately read the book from my local library where I had been working. After reading her book, I went online and found Jason’s prison and started writing to him. It took several months before he sent me a short reply. That was towards the end of 2013. Since then I have continued writing to him and praying for him. He told me he gets lots of mail from family and friends, so it takes two or more months before I receive a reply. I had been writing to a friend who because of repeated arrests for DUI’s was sent to a state prison for 20 months. That started my own prison ministry. So now I am writing to three young men: two with life sentences and one still waiting for his day in court. My friend introduced me to what life in a state prison was like. So now I know what men face when they are sentenced to prison. Finding God in prison can be very difficult but possible. Angola Prison, the largest in the nation, has a thriving Christian ministry with their own inhouse bible college that graduates inmates who become counselors to other inmates serving life sentences.

I want to know if there is an update on Jason Kent? Did God decide Jason could be used more on the outside than on the inside? I was really surprised at the harsh verdict from the judge. It was his first offense and considering the circumstances and the fact that he had never been in trouble his whole life. I know there are consequences for our actions but I believe there are exceptions. Jason was protecting the two girls and reasonably so. My having been raised in an abusive home with my dad beating my mom unmerciful for 22 years and him molesting me, and would whip me until my mom would pull him off of me., I can vouch that a violent man is very much capable of abusing his own children when there is no supervision especially with him abusing their mother. When I listened to Carol’s story, I just sobbed. I thought about my own son if that were to happen to him. Oh how my heart would be broken and torn apart even as a Christian mom. I have to praise Jason on his insight of God’s will for his life and how he encouraged his mom in a very troublesome situation!! I pray if he is not out of prison, God would put Jason’s case in the path of who decides Jason’s destiny and God would speak into this person to reconsider the verdict. I believe Jason should have a second chance!!
